Both Mark and I are currently working a consulting contract in The Bahamas. They are for the same company but completely separate contracts so we were very lucky that our travel requirements coincided. Double lucky that we had a free week at Water's Edge so we would only need a 3 day hotel stay and then we could go "home".
We arrived at The Hilton (our hotel of choice) on Wednesday night and had business dinner commitments right away so we weren't in the room very much that day. The problems began when we got back to the room Wednesday night and I went to take a shower... no water. We are pretty cool about "issues" that you have to deal with when living on an island nation so we didn't worry about it and I figured I would take a shower in the morning. Woke up, went to shower... no water. I called down to reception and was told there was a minor issue that they were working on and the water would be back on in a few hours. Since we didn't have a business commitment until about 6:00pm that evening we were pretty relaxed and headed out to the pool for the day and wander to the port for a lovely lunch at Lukka Kairi.
We got back to the room to get ready around 5:00pm... no water. Well I'm surprised I missed the mayhem in the lobby when we passed through the hotel because when I went downstairs to find out what was going on there were a lot of upset people at the front desk. Apparently the water was out in the entire hotel. I asked what was going on and as soon as I heard the words "Ministry Of Works" (apparently they had cut a pipe during another job) I knew we weren't getting water anytime soon. We grabbed our bags and walked up to the Greycliff Hotel. By this time we were so late we just had the chance to drop our bags in our room and head out to our appointment. And yes I hadn't showered for 48 hours. Gross.
When we get back that evening to the room I am absolutely desperate. Guess what? No water. I fall in to bed and decide to deal with it in the morning. It turns out that the water in that room only was broken so, feeling very sorry for us, Greycliff upgraded us to a suite. Score. In every challenge there is opportunity.
The rest of the week was spent working, hanging with friends and enjoying Water's Edge. My contract is now complete until September, but Mark's continues. Let's see if he can finish before we head off for the summer.
